Raleigh, N.C. — The state’s seasonally adjusted January unemployment rate was 5.3 percent, increasing 0.1 of a percentage point from December’s revised rate.  The national rate increased 0.1 of a percentage point to 4.8 percent.

North Carolina’s January 2017 unemployment rate was unchanged from a year ago.  The number of people employed increased 11,256 over the month to 4,674,841 and increased 98,860 over the year. The number of people unemployed increased 3,298 over the month to 260,150 and increased 1,780 over the year.
A new grant program for workforce development will provide $1 million this year to develop talent pipelines for high-growth industries in North Carolina.

igh, N.C. — Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) increased in 66 of North Carolina’s counties in November, decreased in 23, and remained unchanged in 11.  Hyde County had the highest unemployment rate at 9.4 percent, while Buncombe County and Orange County each had the lowest at 3.7 percent.  Six of the state’s metro areas experienced rate increases, five decreased, and four remained unchanged.

igh, N.C. — Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) increased in 44 of North Carolina’s counties in October, decreased in 22, and remained unchanged in 34.  Robeson County had the highest unemployment rate at 10.3 percent, while Buncombe County had the lowest at 3.6 percent.  Six of the state’s metro areas experienced rate increases, three decreased, and six remained unchanged.

The NCWorks Commission has approved and endorsed seven regional plans to help people prepare and train for work.
