Governor Pat McCrory announced today that the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) approved nine grant and loan requests totaling $3,737,749. The requests include commitments to create a total of 152 new jobs. “Job creation begins with modern infrastructure,” said Governor McCrory. “By funding utility improvements, access roads and building upgrades, these grants will enable small and mid-sized communities across North Carolina to embrace exciting opportunities for economic prosperity.”

Lenoir, N.C. - Governor Pat McCrory, N.C. Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III, and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. announced today that Krystal Engineering, LLC, will open a production facility in Caldwell County, ramping up an 82-person workforce during the next five years. The company, a leading global processor of materials for electronics components, plans to invest $20.9 million at the site over that period.

Company Plans to Hire 350 Customer Service Professionals

Raleigh, N.C. - Governor Pat McCrory, N.C. Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III, and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. announced today that Perdue Foods, LLC, will expand its Richmond County production facility and hire an additional 30 workers during the coming three years. The popular name in consumer poultry and pork products plans to invest $10.9 million at its site in the City of Rockingham.

—Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) decreased in 70 of North Carolina’s counties in December, increased in 21, and remained unchanged in nine. Graham County had the highest unemployment rate at 12.0 percent, while Buncombe County had the lowest at 3.9 percent. Thirteen of the state’s metro areas experienced rate decreases while one increased and one remained unchanged. Among the Metro areas, Rocky Mount at 7.3 percent experienced the highest rate and Asheville had the lowest rate at 4.2 percent. The December not seasonally adjusted statewide rate was 5.3 percent.

Skvarla III and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. announced two productions will receive funds from the North Carolina Film and Entertainment Grant program. Each recipient will begin production within the next 60 days.  “TV series present the chance to establish long term relationships and recurring jobs in our state,” said Secretary Skvarla. “I look forward to watching our state’s fine talent and natural beauty when each of these productions airs on television.”

RALEIGH — The state’s seasonally adjusted December unemployment rate was 5.6 percent, decreasing 0.1 of a percentage point from November’s revised rate.  The national rate remained unchanged at 5.0 percent.

Coty also plans to invest approximately $19 million at the site during the next three years.
