NCcareers.org is where career explorers can find up-to-date NC specific career information to meet their personal and professional needs, interests and goals.  The site has recently received a complete data refresh based on the most recent definition of occupations and educational programs – using the latest BLS SOC and US Department of Education CIP taxonomies.  If you’re a frequent user of NCcareers.org, you’ll notice these changes in six areas of NCcareers:

  1. Refresh to the home page. The top rotating banner has all new imagery, and the page now incorporates photography with the signature graphics. You may also see new spotlighted occupations.
  2. Updated Occupational Descriptions, Work Place Descriptions and Job Duties on the occupation profile pages.
  3. New Common Job Titles for each profile organized so that the most common ones are listed at the top.
  4. Updated Associated Programs and Majors based on the 2020 CIP Taxonomy;
  5. 2023 Star Jobs.
  6. 30 new occupations.  The system now has 823 occupations available for exploration.

Work is not complete on NCcareers.org.  Look for big updates in the coming months including a redesign of the Career Planning Tools Next Step, First Step, and What Can I do With My Education and even more data .

What drove this update?

The goal of NCcareers is to always provide carer explorers with the most up-to-date labor market information available.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases a new SOC taxonomy approximately every 10 years.  The last update to the 2018 version was the 2010 version and the 2018 SOC taxonomy was officially released in late November 2017.  Once a new taxonomy is released, it takes a while for other statistical programs to implement these changes.  The release of the 2021 to 2030 employment projections and 2023 Star Jobs earlier this year provided the final piece of data needed to transition NCcareers.org to the latest taxonomy.
