North Carolina leaders are projecting shortages in direct care workers, nurses and other caregiving positions in the coming decade. At the same time, demand for these services is rising. To address this gap, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the North Carolina Department of Commerce are leading North Carolina’s new Caregiving Workforce Strategic Leadership Council.

Siemens Mobility, Inc., the global manufacturer of rail transportation vehicles and control systems, will build a major advanced manufacturing and rail services center in Davidson County, creating 506 jobs, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The company will invest $220 million in Lexington, creating a new carbon neutral facility that will serve the company’s East Coast markets.

Today, North Carolina entered an international agreement to access new resources and expertise from the nation that built the world’s first offshore wind farm, advancing North Carolina’s development of a clean energy economy.

Axium Packaging, a manufacturer of packaging and containers, will create 118 jobs in Randolph County over the next three years, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The company will invest $32 million to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the City of Archdale.

Global integrated logistics solutions provider, UPS [NYSE: UPS], will create 98 new jobs in Onslow County, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The company will invest more than $12.3 million to locate a distribution facility in the southeast portion of the state in the Town of Holly Ridge.

Global RFID inlays and tags manufacturer, Tageos will create 64 new jobs in Henderson County, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The company will invest $19.25 million to establish its North American headquarters in the Town of Fletcher.

Governor Roy Cooper announced several realignments of local workforce development areas today, approving requests from local elected officials in six counties in central North Carolina. The Governor’s action followed recommendations from the NCWorks Commission, the state workforce development board, which voted in favor of the requests during a February 8 meeting in Raleigh.  The six counties are:

The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) has approved 14 grant requests to local governments totaling $6,644,500, Governor Roy Cooper announced today. The requests include commitments to create a total of 324 jobs, 62 of which were previously announced. The public investment in these projects will attract more than $31.5 million in private investment.    

People paid unemployment benefits in 2022 can now view or download their 1099-G tax statements through their secure, online account accessible from the N.C. Division of Employment Security’s website.  Paper copies were mailed by January 31 to those who requested that method to receive their tax statement, with mail delivery of those documents expected in early February.

Seven North Carolina companies were recognized today for growing their sales success in international markets at the 2022 Governor’s Export Awards. The companies service a range of sectors, from tactical components to bicycle wheel manufacturing and textile machinery. “Last year, North Carolina was able to export more than $40 billion in goods and services to more than 200 countries, showing the global economy has a demand for North Carolina products,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “Our state meets that demand with strong companies like the ones we are recognizing today.”
