North Carolina Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III and Assistant Secretary for Rural Economic Development Dr. Patricia Mitchell have announced the creation of the Commerce Fellows/Building Community through Capacity and Knowledge program.  The program, which will be offered to local governments, will be administered by the Rural Economic Development Division.

Governor Pat McCrory announced today North Carolina has paid off the unemployment insurance debt owed to the federal government. That debt was as high as $2.8 billion and stood at $2.5 billion when Governor McCrory took office in January 2013. 

, N.C. - Governor Pat McCrory, N.C. Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla III and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina announced today that O’Neil Digital Solutions, LLC will open a new facility in Union County and create 250 new jobs over the next five years.  The company plans to invest $90.7 million in the town of Monroe over the same period.

The National Main Street Center®, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation has accredited 35 North Carolina communities for meeting performance standards. This year marks a 26% increase in communities that achieved accreditation. Each year, the National Main Street Center and its partners announce the accredited Main Street® programs that have demonstrated exemplary commitment to historic preservation and community revitalization.

Skvarla III and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. announced today that Reliance Packaging, LLC will expand its operations in Moore County and create 48 new jobs over the next three years.  The company plans to invest $3.5 million in the town of Aberdeen over the same period.

Skvarla, III and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. announced three productions will receive funds from the newly established North Carolina Film and Entertainment Grant. The three productions altogether are expected to have direct in-state spending of more than $60 million across North Carolina this year.

The N.C. Department of Commerce has awarded Brevard, North Carolina up to $200,000 from the Main Street Solutions Fund.  The funds will be used to construct a new office and retail facility located at 43 South Broad Street in downtown Brevard for phase two of the Aethewold Development.  Phase one of the development rehabilitated the historic Aethewold hotel transforming it into residential units and retail space.

Raleigh, N.C. -New innovation grants will assist 13 North Carolina companies in bringing new, cutting-edge products to the marketplace.  Governor Pat McCrory and North Carolina Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III announced the One North Carolina Small Business Fund recipients today along with awards totaling $610,997. The recipients are developing products that would be used primarily in the fields of medicine and technology.
