The Apprenticeship and Training Bureau, formerly a part of the N.C. Department of Labor, transitioned to the N.C. Department of Commerce on January 1.  The program combines on-the-job training with related classroom instruction to develop workers who are fully competent in their respective occupations.

Public Service Campaign is one of many programs designed to assist veterans with job search
  In preparation for the annual observance of Veterans Day on Monday, November 11, Governor Pat McCrory and Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker announced today that November 10-16 is “Employ A Veteran” Week in North Carolina. More than 769,000 veterans reside in every county in North Carolina and as many as 50,000 of those are actively looking for work at any given time.
  The military supports 540,000 jobs, including 340,000 in the private sector, according to a new report released today by the N.C. Department of Commerce. The report also found the military boosts the state’s  personal income by more than $30 billion.   The study, released by the Labor & Economic Analysis Division, concludes the military accounts for nearly 10 percent of all economic activity in North Carolina.  
IGH, N.C. — The N.C. Department of Commerce recently received positive results from three separate audits of the Division of Employment Security (DES). The Division was audited by the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), the Social Security Administration (SSA), and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Composite materials manufacturer to establish new facility in Gastonia
Governor Pat McCrory and North Carolina Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker announced today that Trelleborg  Coated Systems US, Inc., a leading manufacturer of engineered polymer solutions, will expand its operations in Rutherford County.  The company plans to create 76 new jobs and invest $10.6 million over the next four years in Rutherfordton.
, N.C. -- Governor Pat McCrory and North Carolina Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker announced today that RC Creations, LLC, a seafood processing company, will establish a new facility in Pender County. The company plans to create 120 new jobs and invest more than $25 million by the end of 2017.

The awards honor individuals and businesses for outstanding accomplishments and contributions in helping North Carolina achieve its workforce development goals. “I congratulate these award recipients for their determination, innovation and commitment to helping make our employees the nation’s best,” said Governor McCrory. “Our highly skilled workforce is leading our economic recovery.”
