What is the MWR?

The Multiple Worksite Report (MWR) form collects employment and wage data on businesses with multiple locations within North Carolina. Businesses that meet the following criteria must complete the MWR each quarter:

  1. Your business reports its employees under one single Unemployment Insurance (UI) account number.
  2. Your business is engaged in multiple economic activities or has more than one worksite.
  3. Your business has a total of 10 or more employees total in all its secondary worksites combined (the primary worksite is the worksite with the greatest number of employees, and all remaining worksites are secondary worksites).

Is reporting mandatory?

Yes, the MWR is mandatory under the Employment Security Law of North Carolina, Section GS 96-4(i)(1), and is authorized by law, 29 U.S.C. 2. The employment and wage totals on this form must match the corresponding totals reported on the Quarterly Tax and Wage Report Form submitted to the North Carolina Division of Employment Security.

How your data is used

The North Carolina Department of Commerce Labor & Economic Analysis Division (LEAD), in cooperation with the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), publishes quarterly counts of employment and wages in the state using data from employer quarterly unemployment insurance tax reports. The Multiple Worksite Report (MWR) enables this data to be accurately calculated at the county and industry level. This data is published as the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) and is critical for accurately measuring the local economy, projecting employment growth, and determining budget allocations. How to submit your MWR

  1. If it is the business’s first time submitting the MWR, complete and email the BLS MWR Form to MWR_NC@bls.gov.
  2. Businesses who have previously filled out the MWR will receive log-in credentials via mail and e-mail to report online to MWRWeb at https://idcf.bls.gov/.
