This past week, LEAD released its Star Jobs occupations, identifying promising occupations for North Carolininans. Star ratings range from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest), and are assigned based on wages, projected growth rate, and projected job openings.

A few resources, including brochures, were developed to help people use these simplified ratings. One brochure shows all statewide 5-star jobs. Others show a range of top options by minimum educational requirement for entry at the state level and smaller, substate geographies known as Prosperity Zones.

Most importantly, however, is a webtool that has been developed so people can examine and compare occupations on a variety of factors ranging from geography, wage, educational requirement, openings, growth rate, and career clusters. This table, which can be sorted and downloaded, will help people learn more about jobs and make data-driven decisions regarding career opportunities.
