Release of NC January Employment Figures to Be Delayed

Annual revisions of the Labor Area Unemployment Statistics and Current Employment Statistics programs will delay the release of North Carolina January 2015 employment figures.

The release of North Carolina’s 2015 January employment figures will be delayed due to annual revisions of the data, which occurs during the early months of each new year.

However, these revisions will incorporate a redesign of the methodologies used in calculating employment figures for the Labor Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program, resulting in more accurate and reliable estimates.

The redesign will replace all LAUS state employment estimates from January 1976 forward, and all substate areas, e.g., counties, metropolitan statistical areas, etc., from 1990. Employment estimates in the CES program will be replaced back to 1990.

As a result, the North Carolina employment figures for January 2015 will be released March 17, and county and regional employment figures on March 20.

More information on the LAUS 2015 Redesign is available on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics website.
