Are the Suburbs Dying?

<p>You may have heard that suburban growth is on the decline as people flock to urban areas, but this may not be so. Recent research challenges this and other urban legends.</p>

Two blog pieces came out today pointing to the “myth” of the end of the suburbs in the U.S. The Wall Street Journal features the work of migration researcher Lyman Stone, and points out five migration myths around international vs. interstate migration, the overall mobility (or lack thereof) of Americans, migration by age, and migration to cities. Over at Vox, Matthew Yglesias draws on U.S. Census data compiled by Trulia to show that while urban areas are still growing, the urban share of the population is declining.
