Jesse Jur, Ph.D
Dr. Jesse Jur joined the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Office of Science, Technology & Innovation (OSTI) as Deputy Director in 2024 where he leads initiatives that strengthen North Carolina’s science and technology ecosystem and its impact on economic growth and quality of life. In this role, he manages strategic initiatives to expand state and federal science and technology funding, including work in strengthening the State’s technology coalitions (i.e., industry innovation clusters) and the growth of North Carolina’s economic productivity in Defense Science & Technology. His work has honed expertise in navigating complex funding landscapes and supporting regional and international collaborative networks across government, academia, and industry that enables the State’s economic development.
Previously, Dr. Jur was Director of Technical Program Development and Ecosystem Technology at the Manufacturing USA Innovation Institute on Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA). There, he secured major funding from federal agencies, as well as created new technical and business development strategies. Dr. Jur also served as faculty in NC State University’s Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry & Science, earning the rank of Full Professor. At NC State, he led major research programs and contributed to university-wide initiatives, including Center leadership and university strategic planning.
