Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Adhezion Biomedical LLC, a global provider of surgical adhesives, wound-care dressings and infection-prevention sealants, will expand in Hudson.  The company plans to invest $750,000 and create 20 new jobs during the next three years.  The announcement was made possible in part by a $40,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

“North Carolina is synonymous with biomedical research, development and manufacturing,” Gov. Perdue said.  “Our knowledge-based workforce and top business environment ensures that this state remains attractive to innovative, growing companies like Adhezion.”

Adhezion Biomedical, headquartered in Pennsylvania, develops and manufactures wound closure surgical adhesives, wound-care dressings and anti-microbial sealants used in operating rooms, emergency medical care and long-term care facilities.  The company has one manufacturing, research and development facility, located in Hudson, where seven workers are employed.

Adhezion has developed several products, one of which has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval and another of which is expected to receive FDA approval soon.  The company plans to expand its existing facility to allow the manufacture of products as they are approved.  The 20 new jobs will pay an average annual wage of $42,500, not including benefits, which is higher than the Caldwell County average annual wage of $28,548.

“We are delighted to be awarded this funding from the state of North Carolina and look forward to increasing our presence and commitment in the city of Hudson,” said Pete Molinaro, Adhezion chairman and CEO.  “We have had tremendous support from city, county and state representatives throughout the entire process. We are especially motivated to expand in Hudson, where employee skills, commitment and strong work ethic have been instrumental to our success.”

The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state.  Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds.  These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.

North Carolina continues to have a top ranked business climate.  Through Governor Perdue’s JobsNOW initiative, the state will work aggressively to create jobs, train and retrain our workforce and lay the foundation for a strong and sustainable economic future.

Through use of the One NC Fund, more than 40,000 jobs and $6.5 billion in investment have been created since 2001. Other project partners include: the N.C. Department of Commerce, Caldwell County and the Golden LEAF Foundation.
