Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Marves Industries, an international producer of nonwoven textile cushioning and insulator pads for use in mattresses headquartered in Mexico, will open a new North American facility in Burke County.  The company will invest $1.75 million and create 66 jobs in Hildebran.  The announcement was made possible by a $200,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

“North Carolina continues to attract international manufacturing firms seeking the perfect U.S. location to invest and grow,” Gov. Perdue said.  “Our state’s trained workforce, top business climate and exceptional quality of life are spurring companies to expand here and create the good jobs our citizens have come to expect.”

Marves Industries plans to open a plant in the former Bauer facility in Hildebran, using the existing building and equipment.  The project’s 66 new jobs will pay an average annual wage of $33,636, not including benefits, which is higher than the Burke County average annual wage of $30,628.

“North Carolina offers the ideal strategic location to cover 50 percent of the potential market that Marves Industries is interested in pursuing,” Marves General Manager Elias Gomez said.  “The availability of the building, equipment and trained labor in Hildebran weighed heavily in the decision.”

The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state.  Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds.  These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.

North Carolina continues to have a top-ranked business climate.  Through Gov. Perdue’s JobsNOW initiative, the state continues to work aggressively to create jobs, train and retrain workers, and lay the foundation for a strong and sustainable economic future.

Through use of the One NC Fund, more than 40,000 jobs and $7 billion in investment have been created since 2001.  Other project partners include: the N.C. Department of Commerce, N.C. Community Colleges, N.C. Rural Economic Development Center, Burke County and Duke Energy.
