Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that an additional $4.9 million in federal Recovery Act funding for energy efficiency block grants has been awarded to 58 projects in 52 local governments to help save on utility and fuel bills and create jobs.  The grants mark the last distribution of money from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program in North Carolina, for a total of about $11.9 million to 104 local governments, public school systems and community colleges. 

RALEIGH - Gov. Bev Perdue has proclaimed Tuesday, May 18 as “Travel and Tourism Day” to celebrate an industry vital to the economic stability and growth of North Carolina.  North Carolina’s tourism industry is composed of small businesses that make up a vital part of our state’s economy, creating jobs and investment from the mountains to the coast.

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that VSA LLC, a recycler of automotive catalytic converters, will locate its production plant in Burke County.  The company plans to create 98 jobs and invest $4.5 million during the next two years in Morganton.  The project was made possible in part by a $98,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund. 

The N.C. Energy Office announced today that the state’s Energy Star Appliance Replacement and Rebate Program will offer a second phase starting June 1.  In the second phase, more appliances will be eligible for purchase by consumers seeking to reduce energy costs by replacing older appliance models, said Ward Lenz, Energy Office director.

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Spectrum Mills LLC will locate in McDowell County.  The company, which will manufacture specialty textured yarns, plans to create 49 jobs and invest $2.7 million during the next three years.  The project was made possible in part by a $135,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.  

Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco announced today that the N.C. Film Office received several marketing awards for its creative work at the 25th annual Locations Trade Show in Santa Monica, Calif., last week.  The Association of Film Commissioners International, which represents more than 300 film commissions worldwide, presented the awards in this global competition.

Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that MasterBrand Cabinets Inc., a national manufacturer of kitchen and bath cabinets for the remodeling and new construction markets, will expand in Lenoir County.  The company plans to create 334 jobs and invest more than $3.75 million during the next three years in Kinston.  The announcement was made possible in part by a $200,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.     

Gov. Bev Perdue announced today that Greiner Bio-One North America Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of medical sampling devices and laboratory analysis technology, will create 51 jobs and invest $25 million in Union County over the next three years. The project was made possible in part by a $100,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

Dr. Rita Joyner, most recently a special assistant in Commerce’s N.C. Energy Office, has been named section chief of the state’s Weatherization Assistance Program, Ward Lenz, director of the N.C. Energy Office announced today.
