North Carolina employers have received a boost in workforce investments, thanks to a grant program through NCWorks. Thirty-one of the state’s employers received grants this month totaling $246,807 to train 612 workers.  The federally funded NCWorks Incumbent Worker Training Grants are reimbursements awarded twice a year to employers who qualify for financial assistance in workforce training. As a result, more businesses enhance employee talent and workers can sharpen their skills through training at no cost to themselves.
North Carolina Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III and Assistant Secretary for Rural Economic Development Dr. Patricia Mitchell announced today that the Town of Mars Hill has been awarded a grant under the BizConnect Broadband Pilot Grant Program.  The program provides grants to North Carolina municipalities to fund broadband to business locations that are unserved or underserved by connectivity. 
Raleigh, N.C. -  Governor Pat McCrory, N.C. Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla III and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. announced today that Mohawk Industries will expand its manufacturing facility in Rockingham County and create 105 new jobs over the next five years.  The company plans to invest $8 million in the city of Eden.

, NC - Governor Pat McCrory announced today that North Carolina tourism generated record visitor spending in 2014 with a total of $21.3 billion,  a 5.4 percent increase over 2013. Additionally, tourism industry supported employment topped 200,000 jobs for the first time.   
North Carolina Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III and Assistant Secretary for Rural Economic Development Dr. Patricia Mitchell have announced the creation of the Commerce Fellows/Building Community through Capacity and Knowledge program.  The program, which will be offered to local governments, will be administered by the Rural Economic Development Division.
Governor Pat McCrory announced today North Carolina has paid off the unemployment insurance debt owed to the federal government. That debt was as high as $2.8 billion and stood at $2.5 billion when Governor McCrory took office in January 2013.

Skvarla III and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina announced today that O’Neil Digital Solutions, LLC will open a new facility in Union County and create 250 new jobs over the next five years.  The company plans to invest $90.7 million in the town of Monroe over the same period.
