IGH, NC — The North Carolina Department of Commerce announced today that Tarboro and Edenton have been designated Certified Retirement Communities. The General Assembly established the program in 2008 to designate communities that offer unprecedented quality of living that is desirable to retirees. “This designation will be a valuable economic development tool for both Tarboro and Edenton and their residents,” said Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker. “The people of Tarboro and Edenton recognize the valuable contributions that retirees can make to enhance their community.”

Automotive parts manufacturer to invest $113 million for expansion

, NC - Governor Pat McCrory and N.C. Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker announced today that Elkamet Inc. is expanding its North Carolina manufacturing operations in Henderson County.  The company plans to create 20 new jobs and invest more than $2.5 million over the next three years in East Flat Rock.  

N.C. Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker and Assistant Secretary for Rural Development Dr. Pat Mitchell announced today that the N.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) approved 18 grants totaling more than $8.1 million. The RIA was established as part of the Rural Economic Development Division at the N.C. Department of Commerce to assist with the review and approval of grants for rural areas in the state. The grants-making programs of the new division include assistance for building reuse and restoration as well as infrastructure including water and sewer.

Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker announced today that XO.STEEL, LLC is locating its North Carolina manufacturing operations in McDowell County.  The company plans to create 30 new jobs and invest $350,000 over the next three years in Old Fort.   “We’ve created an atmosphere of job creation, growth and investment for innovative companies,” said Governor McCrory. "This new steel coatings business will provide job opportunities to keep talented workers in McDowell County.”

The Brand North Carolina Project is being conducted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise (KIPE) and sponsored by the Department of Commerce.

Governor Pat McCrory and N.C. Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker announced today that Bonita Manufacturing Products, Inc., doing business as Bonita Pioneer, is locating its North Carolina manufacturing operations in Rutherford County.  The company plans to create 50 jobs and invest more than $2.8 million over the next three years in Forest City.
