IGH —The state’s seasonally adjusted August unemployment rate was 4.6 percent, decreasing 0.1 of a percentage point from July’s revised rate. The national rate remained unchanged at 4.9 percent.North Carolina’s August 2016 unemployment rate was 1.1 percentage points lower than a year ago. The number of people employed decreased 12,616 over the month to 4,588,792 and increased 96,272 over the year. The number of people unemployed decreased 3,808 over the month to 221,746, and decreased 49,242 over the year.
Governor Pat McCrory announced today that promising North Carolina technology firms are moving closer to their next stage of growth thanks to grant awards from the One North Carolina Small Business Fund. In 2015-16, 40 companies across 16 communities received awards from the fund, totaling $1.95 million in grants.
IGH —Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) decreased in 90 of North Carolina’s counties in July, increased in two, and remained unchanged in eight. Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate at 9.0 percent, while Buncombe County had the lowest at 3.8 percent. Twelve of the state’s metro areas experienced rate decreases and three remained unchanged. Among the Metro areas, Rocky Mount at 7.3 percent experienced the highest rate and Asheville had the lowest rate at 4.0 percent. The July not seasonally adjusted statewide rate was 5.0 percent.
