NC Division of Tourism Helps Irene Evacuees Find Lodging

RALEIGH
Aug 26, 2011

—In anticipation of Hurricane Irene’s impact on eastern North Carolina, the NC Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development (NCSTD) is assisting residents and travelers displaced by Hurricane Irene in finding available lodging away from the storm.

A list of available rooms is posted at www.visitnc.com/advisories/view/12 and is updated frequently. All NCSTD Welcome Centers will also provide assistance to travelers seeking shelter from the storm. NCSTD is also staffing its call center around the clock throughout the weekend so travelers can get up-to-date travel and lodging information by calling 1-800-VISIT-NC. The call center will also assist the NC Department of Transportation with its hotline operations.

Official tourism organizations from counties throughout North Carolina are tracking and updating their available accommodations status during the storm and are making every effort to ensure that this information is up-to-date. However, evacuees should call ahead to secure accommodations since availability changes frequently during a storm. When seeking lodging, evacuees should request specific information including smoking and pet policies.
