COMMERCE ANNOUNCES UTILITY GRANT FUNDS TO AID 200 HOUSEHOLDS STATEWIDE More Than $830,000 in CDBG Funds Will Provide Water, Sewer Hook-Ups in 13 Communities

Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco today announced that 13 communities received a total of $830,330 in Community Development Block Grant funds to connect 200 low- and moderate-income households to public water and/or sewer lines. 

The Infrastructure Hook-Up Program enables local governments to connect low- and moderate-income households to existing public water and/or sewer lines, provided the existing lines were not constructed with CDBG funds.  The maximum grant amount is $75,000. 

“North Carolina is committed to helping provide vital utility connections to our needy families statewide,” Crisco said.  “These funds will ensure that basic hygiene needs are met through enhanced service to 200 deserving households.”  

The CDBG funding recipients and amounts are: 

·         Brunswick County, $73,000 to connect 20 households to water lines.

·         Catawba County, $75,000 to connect 19 households to water lines, one to sewer lines, and one to both water and sewer lines.

·         Columbus County, $75,000 to connect 28 households to water lines.

·         Edgecombe County, $40,850 to connect six households to water lines.

·         Henderson County, $66,500 to connect 11 households to sewer lines and four households to water lines.

·         Sampson County, $23,000 to connect 10 households to water lines.

·         Town of Conway, $27,000 to connect three households to water lines.

·         Town of Cove City, $75,000 to connect 20 households to sewer lines.

·         Town of Dover, $75,000 to connect 20 households to sewer lines.

·         Town of Enfield, $74,980 to connect 11 households to sewer lines, five to water lines, and four to both water and sewer lines.

·         Town of Princeville, $75,000 to connect five households to water or sewer lines.

·         City of Thomasville, $75,000 to connect 10 households to sewer lines and two households to water and sewer lines.

·         City of Trinity, $75,000 to connect 20 households to sewer lines. 

CDBG funding is allocated to the state from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  The N.C. Department of Commerce’s Division of Community Assistance administers the program for the state.
